Nursery classes
There are two Nursery classes in our school, guided by a qualified teacher who over sees both the ‘Stars’ and ‘Rainbows’ rooms. Both rooms have a highly qualified and experienced team of staff. We aim to provide an environment in which the children develop self-esteem, in an atmosphere of mutual respect, whilst learning to appreciate and understand others. We encourage independence and promote an ethos of listening, sharing, concentration and pride in our achievements. In everything we do, we are developing the children’s speaking and listening skills and giving them the confidence to know how to seek help.
Curriculum
Both Nursery classes follow a yearly curriculum overview with a focus on learning around different topics and core texts. Each topic is designed to provide the children with a wide range of experiences and a balanced curriculum. Sometimes, the topics will change or be adapted, dependent on the children’s interests and next steps.
Activities and experiences are planned by a qualified teacher and the room leader, to enable the children to learn and develop effectively. In nursery, staff contribute to planning ideas and think about individual children’s next steps, with a predominant focus on the three prime areas. Where a child may have a special educational need or disability, staff consider whether specialist support is required, linking with relevant services from other agencies where appropriate. More information can be found on the application form. You can find out more about how our Nursery curriculum prepares our pupils for future learning here

In the Rainbows room, the children can start the year before they start school. The Rainbows room focuses on the three prime areas as well as incorporating the four specific areas to support the children to feel prepared for starting school. The children will learn through play and engage in practical activities to develop their learning and skills, with a large focus on literacy and encouraging a love for reading and books.
